An art installation containing over 80 red onion “rescues” (about to be removed from the grocery store shelves), a hidden fan, and two-channel audio.
Inspired by a haiku I wrote while an artist in residence at Hambidge Center in Georgia:
sorrow breathes into
tight spaces that lie waiting
river tumbles on
In this installation, a table of onions lay waiting, their skins moving from the air of a hidden fan. The sound of rushing water quietly accompanies. Inhabiting a kind of liminality, the onions exist on the threshold of hope and sorrow. If the onion is left, it sprouts, if cut into, it produces tears. The above image is documentation at the end of the 30 day exhibition.
